Type / Interest: People & Culture, Sightseeing and / or City Tour
Activity level: Moderate
Duration: Half Day
Depart the pier for a scenic drive toward Old San Juan, where you'll visit San Cristóbal Castle, built by the Spanish to defend the city from attacks by the British, Dutch, and pirates. The fort saw its last battle during the Spanish–American War, when it was attacked by the U.S. Navy. Enjoy an hour exploring this impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site before continuing to the city of Bayamón for a guided visit to the historic Barrilito Distillery, founded in 1880.
Renowned as one of the finest rums in the world, the Barrilito brand is still crafted using time-honored traditions passed down through the Fernández family. On your tour, you'll learn about the distillery's history, see the bottling plant and barrel warehouse, and follow the rum-making process from start to finish. The experience concludes with a tasting of Barrilito's award-winning 2-Star, 3-Star, 4-Star, and 5-Star rums—an aromatic and flavorful journey for the senses.
