The Camino invites us to experience travel a little differently, including where we stay.
While Fellow Travelers is committed to comfort, quality, and thoughtful hospitality, the Camino is not a luxury hotel journey. In many of the small villages along the route, accommodations are limited to intimate hotels, hostales, and traditional guesthouses that are modest by luxury travel standards. Rooms may be smaller, amenities simpler, and properties more traditional than you might typically choose for an upscale vacation.
That simplicity is part of the Camino experience.
We have selected accommodations with an emphasis on comfort, cleanliness, character, location, and private en-suite bathrooms, while choosing among the best options reasonably available along our route. Some stays will be charming and distinctive; others will be straightforward places to shower, rest tired legs, and enjoy a good night's sleep before walking the next morning again.
Travelers should also expect differences from North American luxury hotels. Room sizes, bedding, air conditioning, elevators, and other amenities can vary from property to property, particularly in historic buildings and smaller villages.
What remains elevated is the journey itself: thoughtful planning, luggage transfers, carefully selected experiences, personal Camino coaching, shared meals and celebrations, and the opportunity to experience the Camino with a small community of fellow gay travelers.
On the Camino, luxury takes on a different meaning: having your bag waiting when you arrive, a private room and hot shower after a long day's walk, a wonderful meal, good conversation, and the privilege of waking up the next morning to continue the journey.
Come prepared to embrace the simplicity. It is part of what makes the Camino unlike almost any other journey—and often part of what travelers remember most.
