Head to an outdoor deck 30 minutes before entering the straits and have your camera ready. This is one of the most scenic sail-through experiences of the entire voyage and often becomes an unexpected highlight for travelers.
The Kanmon Straits passage is one of the most scenic stretches of the entire journey. This narrow channel, just a few hundred meters wide at its tightest point, separates the islands of Honshu and Kyushu and has been one of Japan's most strategically important waterways for centuries.
As the ship glides through, you will be treated to views of the Kanmon Bridge arching overhead, the towns of Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu on either bank, and the kind of close-up coastal scenery that is impossible to appreciate from the open sea. Ships pass through slowly and deliberately, which means there is plenty of time to take it all in. Grab a coffee, find a good spot on deck, and enjoy the show.
