Icy Strait Point sits just outside the native Tlingit village of Hoonah, and it has a legitimately interesting origin story - a restored 1930s salmon cannery that now serves as the port's cultural and culinary hub. The whale watching here is exceptional (humpbacks and orcas are regulars), the seafood is as fresh as it gets, and for the adventurous there's the world's largest zipline - 5,330 feet with a 1,300-foot vertical drop and views that will rearrange your sense of scale. For those who prefer their adrenaline in smaller doses, a gondola ride up into the mountains offers the same views at a considerably calmer pace.
What we'd suggest: Whale watching in the morning, fresh seafood at the cannery for lunch, and the zipline if you've been looking for an excuse.
