Today we step off the Celebrity Ascent and into the greatest city the ancient world ever produced. Rome — the Eternal City — was the ultimate destination of the Apostle Paul's final, extraordinary journey. History is woven into every street, every stone, and every cobblestone neighborhood of this magnificent city. Today, we will not simply sightsee. We will trace the footsteps of an Apostle who gave everything to bring the Gospel to the heart of the Roman Empire.
The Wonders of Ancient Rome
- The Colosseum — One of the most iconic structures ever built, this vast amphitheater held up to 80,000 spectators. Early Christians were among those who faced persecution in this arena — a sobering and powerful place to stand
- The Pantheon — Marvel at this extraordinary 2,000-year-old temple, one of the best-preserved buildings in the ancient world, its perfect dome open to the sky
- Campidoglio (Capitoline Hill) — From Rome's most sacred hill, you will look out over the Roman Forum — the nerve center of the ancient empire, where Roman law, commerce, and public life converged

- The Mamertine Prison — Near the Roman Forum lies this ancient underground dungeon where Rome imprisoned its most notorious captives. Revered as the place where the Apostle Peter was held before his crucifixion, and where Paul himself may have been imprisoned. Descending into this dark, sacred space is one of the most sobering and moving moments of our entire pilgrimage
- The Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls — Our pilgrimage reaches its sacred conclusion here, at one of the four major papal basilicas of Rome. Beneath the magnificent basilica lies the Tomb of St. Paul the Apostle — the man who carried the Gospel to the ends of the known world, affectionately known as the Apostle of the Gentiles. To stand at Paul's tomb, to bow your head at the grave of the man whose letters have shaped billions of lives across two millennia, is a moment words cannot fully capture
