City/Region Overview
You return this morning to Civitavecchia — Rome's ancient seaport and the same harbor from which your pilgrimage set sail eleven nights ago. Founded by the Emperor Trajan in the 2nd century A.D. and guarded by a Renaissance fortress designed by Michelangelo, Civitavecchia has served as the maritime gateway to Rome for nearly two millennia — including, in the ancient world, for ships carrying goods, travelers, and the occasional prisoner to and from the imperial capital. Today it serves the same purpose: connecting the sea to the greatest city the ancient world ever produced. After disembarking the Celebrity Ascent, our group transfers directly into Rome for our final and profoundly moving Faith-Based Tour — the culmination of our entire Voyage of Paul.
